He called Arabs to revive morals and then killed them!
May 6 of each year marks the Martyrs’ Day, where the Syrians and the Lebanese celebrate this national occasion. What is the story and what is the role of the Ottomans in the massacre that took place in al-Marjah neighborhood? Does the Turkish state founded on the ruins of the Ottoman Empire continue the same approach based on the genocide against the peoples of the region? This dossier will answer all these questions.
AISHA MODAWAR –GANDI ALO / ALTABQA
Over four centuries of its conquest of the Arab region, the Ottoman Empire was known for its looting and invasion of the regions and peoples of the Middle East until it was transformed from a region of human civilizations into an arena for the execution of its massacres which are still continuing till today.
There were no Ottoman presence in the Middle East and their origins were in the Tianxian plains on the Chinese border in Central Asia over 2,400 km2 according to some sources, the first known presence of the Turks in the Middle East was a number of Turks who were bought by the Umayyad governor Ziad ibn Abi in the ninth century of the Ottoman Empire. Slave markets in Bukhara to serve as guards for his imprisonment in Kufa and Caliph al-Mu'tasim from Samarkand markets.
The Ottomans began to rule the Middle East after Marj Dabek Battel in 1516, and Raidaniyah Battel in 1517, after which the Ottoman Sultan Yawoz Selim occupied the Levant and Egypt and then the Hijaz region to annex the Middle East to its rule and include them to the Anatolia region. The Ottoman rule of the Middle East lasted for 4 centuries until 1918 at the end of the First World War.
When the Ottoman ruler Jamal Pasha, nicknamed “the Slaughterer" was appointed in his new position in the Levant, he first pursued the policy of rotation and tried to win the Arabs to Turkey, trying to benefit from them in World War I. Jamal Pasha addressed Damascus in 1914 saying:
You, the children of the Arabs, have to live up to the morals and glory of the Arabs, since the lights of the Ahmadiyya religion revived, revive the chivalry of the Arabs and their literature even that of pre-Islamic, defend it with all you might, work on promoting Arabs and the Arabic language, renew you civilization.”
The one who called on the Arabs to revive their morals, however, on 6 May carried out a campaign of executions in the form of two batches against the patriots and intellectuals of Syria and Lebanon during the First World War in 1914 took place in al-Barj Square in Beirut.
The second batch was in 1916 in Marjah Square in Damascus in what was later called the Martyrs' Square. These executions were carried out by the Ottoman ruler Jamal Pasha, nicknamed the “Slaughterer". Some sources said that his actions were because of his defeat in Safer Barlak war against the English.
The massacres of the Ottoman Empire were not limited to Arabs only in the region, but also to other peoples, such as the Armenians, where the Ottoman Empire seized their lands in 1514 and forcibly deported them to neighboring Arabic and European countries.
In 1915, the Ottomans also committed a massacre of one and a half million Armenians who, to this day, demand that the Turkish government recognize and commemorate the massacre every year, but the latter does not recognize such a thing.
This happened during the days of the Ottoman Empire, but the mentality of genocide did not stop with the declaration of the Turkish Republic in 1923, where successive governments followed the policy of killing and destruction.
Shortly after its declaration, the Turkish Republic killed at least 15,000 Kurds, destroyed about 900 homes, burned and removed 210 villages, and displaced thousands of Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians during the uprising led by Sheikh Saeed against the suppression of the Turkish Republic at the time.
In 1938, the Turkish authorities committed another massacre against the Kurds in the Zilan Valley in Dêrsim area, and thus Turkey continued its existence based on the blood of millions of Kurds, Arabs and Armenians.
The Turkish occupation army killed more than 260 civilians, mostly children and women. The air and artillery bombardment of the Turkish occupation has caused more than 700 injuries and the displacement of more than 200,000 citizens.
As Jamal Pasha "the Slaughterer" called Arabs to revive the morals, he then committed the massacres against them and exploited them in his wars against the English, here is the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan repeating acts of the Slaughterer, he had instilled the so-called free army (mostly Syrian Arabs) in battles that do not involve in in any way, shape, or form which drove them out of the course of fighting the regime to fight the Kurds.
In late April, Erdogan came out to reassure the Turks that many Turkish soldiers were not killed during the aggression on Afrin and that the majority of the killed were from the Free Army. In other words, the Turkish president wants to impress the people of Turkey that the dead are Arabs, not Turks.
This is what the Ottoman Empire did during the four centuries of its conquest. Erdogan repeats the same scenario by exploiting the peoples of the region and beating them together for his power only.
