UN MR expert calls on the regime to lift the death sentence against Kurdish political prisoner
N's Special Rapporteur for arbitrary executions urges the Iranian regime to immediately stop the execution of Kurdish political prisoner, Ramin Hossein Panahi.
Several of the UN MR expetter urged the regime's authorities to lift the death penalty against him in a statement last month. They referred to data that Panahi had not received a fair trial and had suffered torture and other malpractice in prison.
"I regret deeply that the authorities have ignored previous calls for lifting Panahi's death penalty and giving him a fair trial," said Agnes Callamard, UN Special Rapporteur for arbitrary executions in a statement on Thursday.
Ramin Hossein Panahi was arrested by the Revolution Guard in July last year. He was sentenced to death in the courts of the regime to "act against national security" and "membership of Komala (an Iranian Kurdish organization)".
The Iranian regime's supreme court confirmed his death penalty despite international calls to lift the verdict.
According to data, Panahi has been moved to death carnival pending the execution will be executed later this week.
Panahi's brother has previously been convicted of eight and a half years in prison.
