Kurdish Inmate Hussein Panahi Rejects Tehran’s Demand for Televised Appearance
Iranian Kurdish political prisoner, Ramin Hussein Panahi, has recently been asked by Tehran authorities to appear on the state television and reject reports about his torture.
The demand was immediately rejected by Panahi who is awaiting his execution for alleged membership in a Kurdish political party.
Iranian Kurdish human rights organisations said the demand was made during a visit by a delegation from Tehran to Panahi’s prison in Sanandaj.
A family member of Panahi, who wished to remain anonymous, told Hangaw Organisation for Human Rights that authorities informed Panahi’s family after the meeting that the rejection of their proposal would bring the execution date even closer.
International human rights organisations have condemned Panahi’s death sentence, urging the Iranian government to reconsider the sentence and cancel the death penalty.
However, Mizan website, affiliated with Iranian Judicial body, has made a comparison between Kurdish Communist Party (Komala), which Panahi is charged for its membership, with the Islamic State (IS).
It indirectly alarms approaching date of Panahi’s execution.
Ramin Hussein Panahi has rejected the entire charges, and called the brief trials unjust.
