An Iranian court has sentenced two women to death over "committing adultery", a monitoring group said on Monday.



"A Kurdish woman from Mako by the name of Gulistan Jnikanlou was sentenced to death by the Khoy Criminal Court of West Azerbaijan Province, accused of committing zina," Kurdistan 24 quoted a statement by Hangaw Organization for Human Rights, using an Arabic term for "adultery".

The mother of two children was arrested in 2017, but she was soon released on bail, the monitor said, noting that a man, who was alleged to have had intercourse with Jnikanlou, was taken into custody and his fate has so far remained unknown.

Another woman identified as Zara Derakhshani, 37, has received the death penalty by the Khoy Criminal Court on the same charges, Kurdistan 24 added, pointing out that both accusations had been made by their husbands.
