Why can she be sentenced?
Israa al-Ghomgham dreamed of a better future in Saudi Arabia. She participated in several peaceful demonstrations and engaged in social media. In December 2015, she was arrested by Saudi security forces.

Israa was charged with the terror law. One of the accusations against Israa is that she attended the funerals of her friends. Friends have been killed during clashes between activists and security forces. By joining these funerals, the authorities believe she has shown moral support for illegal acts.

Now we need your help
Help us tell the Saudi authorities that this is unacceptable - peaceful activists should not be sentenced to death!

We have no time to lose! Sign the action now, so that we can send the signatures well in advance of January 13th.

Oslo:
Demonstration in front of the embassy
Since January 2015, Amnesty has held regular demonstrations outside the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Oslo.

Tomorrow, Friday 4 January, we will meet in front of the embassy again. We continue the struggle for Raif Badawi, the women activists and all other prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia to regain their freedom.

Today's appellants are political commentator and former political editor of Aftenposten, Harald Stanghelle, and Grethe Kristine Olsen, who is an activist and newly elected product for the board of Amnesty.

Anyone who wishes can participate.
SAUDI-ARABIA: THE STONE DEATH FOR ISRAA (28)
On January 13, Israa can be sentenced to death in funerals, shared in social media and participated in peaceful demonstrations. Help us stop the verdict - sign the action!

For three long years, Israa al-Ghomgham and her husband Mousa al-Hashim have been imprisoned for their peaceful activism. On January 13, Israa can become the first woman to be sentenced to death.

Now we need your help to tell the Saudi Arabian authorities that this is unacceptable - peaceful activists should not be sentenced to death!

The dream of a better world
During the Arab Spring of 2011, Israa and Mousa met for the first time. As thousands of others, they hoped for a better future and shared the dream of dignity and freedom for all people in Saudi Arabia. Soon they married two, and together they participated in several peaceful demonstrations. Their commitment should prove to be fatal.

Three long years in prison - for pictures and funerals
Four years later, in December 2015, Saudi security forces return to Israa and Moussa. They are there to arrest and detain the couple. Both are accused under the terrorist law.

One of the charges against Israa and Moussa is that they have participated in the funerals of their friends. Friends have been killed during clashes between activists and security forces. By joining these funerals, the authorities believe that the couple have shown moral support for illegal acts.

Israa and Moussa are also accused of participating in peaceful demonstrations that they have shared photos in social media.

Will be sentenced to death on January 13?
In August 2018, the mass case began against Israa, Mousa and five other peaceful activists. Then the prosecutor laid claim for five of the defendants, including Israa. January 13, the verdict can become enforceable, and Israa can become the first woman to be sentenced to death because of peaceful activism.

Help us stop this!

Amnesty requires:
The five defendants are not sentenced to death.
Saudi authorities immediately release Israa al-Ghomgham, Ahmed al Matrood, Ali Ouwaisher, Mousa al-Hashim, Khalid al-Ghanim and Mujtaba al-Muzain as they are imprisoned solely for the purpose of using their freedom of speech and assembly freely.
Saudi authorities abolish the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.
We send the signatures to King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud to stop the death sentences.
Strupetak on freedom of expression
Since August 2018, Saudi authorities have further tightened their grip on freedom of speech, assembly and peaceful activism. Several religious leaders and peaceful activists have been asked for the Special Court for Terror-related Cases - Specialized Criminal Court (SCC) - as if they were terrorists.

Many are in danger now
Since August, the Public Prosecutor has filed a death sentence for at least eight activists. This creates fear for what might happen to other activists, writers, journalists and human rights defenders who are imprisoned without charge and judgment in Saudi prisons.

Several are already sentenced to death
Several people are already sentenced to death in recent years and can be executed at any time. Amnesty has documented at least 18 people from the Shiite minority in the country on the death row. This includes four young men who are sentenced to death for something they should have done as minors. In 2017, 146 people were executed.
