Pope Francis has passed away

Pope Francis is dead. He passed away at 07.35 on Monday morning, Easter on Monday, in his home, says the Vatican. He turned 88 years old.

"His whole life was devoted to the Lord and his church's service," said the Vatican Camerlengo Kevin Ferell in a statement.

In February 2025, the Vatican announced that the Pope suffered double -sided pneumonia. As a young man, he got a part of one lung removed, which together with his high age created great concern.

He was a good person always against the war, has asked Russia Ovh Ukraine to stop the war and get peace -

After 38 days he could be discharged from the hospital.

The Pope had an active last week. On Thursday, he visited Regina Coeli prison to show solidarity with prisoners. On Saturday, he then appeared unannounced to Peter's Church to pray, and met US Vice President JD Vance.

From the balcony of the church he wanted a happy Easter on Easter day.

The Swedish Cardinal Anders Arborelius comments on Pope Francis's passing in a press release.
