Damascus is witnessing increasing security tensions after information was received about expected protests against the head of the transitional phase, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and a state of alert to protect sensitive areas and religious sites.
According to some sources, several neighborhoods within the Syrian capital, Damascus, particularly those bordering the administrative boundaries of Eastern Ghouta, such as Al-Qassaa, Bab Touma, Al-Abbasiyyin, Al-Tijara, and Ain Tarma, near the city of Jaramana, have witnessed a heightened security alert by security authorities and neighborhood committees over the past two days. The reason is the presence of security threats coming from within Ghouta, with demonstrations starting there and continuing all the way to the heart of the capital against the Damascus government. Demonstrations are being called for the ouster of the interim president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, for several reasons, including the Russian-Syrian meeting. These demonstrations are also being caused by numerous problems caused by government economic entities against economic operators, businessmen, and investors.
The sources added that there is a danger and threats targeting religious sites belonging to the Syrian Christian community, which has necessitated a heightened security alert that could last for several days within the neighborhoods of the Syrian capital.
