An unprecedented drought in Iran is forcing the ayatollah regime to impose periodic restrictions on water allocations in Tehran, the AFP news agency reported.
Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliyev was quoted on state television as saying the move would “prevent waste, even if it causes some inconvenience.” Local media reported that nighttime water cuts had already begun in the metropolis of more than 10 million people.
Iranian President Masoud Pazakhstan warned in a speech broadcast on Friday that residents of Tehran may be forced to leave the Iranian capital due to water shortages if there is no rain before the end of the year. “If it does not rain, we will have to start rationing water in Tehran between the end of November and the beginning of December,” Pazakhstan said. He added that “even with rationing, if it does not rain, we will be left without water and will have to evacuate Tehran.”
