#Varishe_Moradi, a #Kurdish #political #prisoner, was sentenced to death by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, headed by Abolghasem Salavati, on charges of “rebellion”.

According to the Kurdistan Network for Human Rights, the political prisoner’s trials were held in June and October of this year, and the death sentence was announced to his lawyers today, Sunday, November 10.

According to the report, he was not allowed to defend himself during the trials, and Salavati did not even allow his lawyers to defend him. In addition, the lawyers in the case, who had previously been deprived of the right to study the file, were only able to study their client’s file for a few hours after the end of the second trial.

The death sentence for Varishe Moradi was issued despite the prosecution having previously requested the application of Article 288 of the Islamic Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. However, Salavati issued the death sentence in an illegal process based on Article 287 of this law.

On October 19, 2014, the International Day Against the Death Penalty, Varisheh Moradi began a 20-day hunger strike in Tehran’s Evin Prison to protest the issuance and execution of death sentences by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Varisheh Moradi’s first court hearing was canceled on May 15, 2024, for unknown reasons. On May 16, 2024, she was transferred to solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison on the orders of Salavati for re-interrogation for three days.

Varisheh Moradi, a member of the Free Women’s Association of Eastern Kurdistan (Kjar), is from Sanandaj. She was violently arrested and shot by mercenaries from the terrorist Ministry of Intelligence at the entrance to Sanandaj on August 10, 2014, when she returned from Kermanshah.

After 13 days in Sanandaj, she was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison and subjected to pressure and torture to force her to confess. After five months in solitary confinement, she was transferred to the women's ward of Evin Prison on January 23, 2023
