Iran has purchased Russian Su-35 fighter jets

The US and Israel are closely monitoring recent deliveries of Russian military systems to Iran. According to Israeli defense sources, there is strong evidence that these deliveries included S-400 air defense systems.Another news agency announced that Iran is purchasing the Chinese J-20, which is the most modern air force.

These deliveries are being made using heavy-lift transport aircraft, including the An-124 Ruslan, and are part of a broader strategic realignment aimed at strengthening Iran's air defense and combat capabilities.

According to the aforementioned sources, Russia has signed a contract with Iran for the delivery of advanced Su-35 fighter jets to its air force. The $6.5 billion contract covers 48 Su-35s. It has also been confirmed that the Su-35 will be equipped with Khibiny-M electronic warfare pods and Irbis-E radar systems and is expected to be installed locally in Iran.

The sophisticated Khibiny ECM protects the aircraft from attacks by mounting two cylindrical pods on the wingtips of the fighter jet, or, in some models, two pods on the wingtips and one pod under the fuselage. In the event of a missile attack, the fighter jet is surrounded by a radio-electronic shield that deflects the enemy missile and prevents it from reaching its target.

The Irbis-E radar offers air-to-air, air-to-sea, and air-to-ground capabilities. Experts say this radar can operate in highly congested environments and is designed to identify difficult-to-detect and extremely difficult-to-detect/camouflaged aircraft threats.

Su-35 Deal: Iran's Largest Fighter Jet Acquisition Since the 1970s

The Su-35 deal is Iran's largest fighter jet acquisition since the 1970s and is intended to replace its aging fleet of F-14s and F-4s.

The growing military and economic ties between the two nations are reflected in the arms shipments, which are part of a larger barter agreement that also includes Iranian drones and oil. These shipments are seen as a direct challenge to Western influence in the Middle East and come amid escalating regional tensions.

The transfer of these advanced technologies will enable Iran to better withstand external military pressure and exert its power in the region. The ability of the Russia-Iran defense axis to circumvent Western sanctions and create a parallel military-technological sphere could shift the balance of power in the region.
