An Iranian employee of the Swedish Security Police has been arrested on charges of spying for the Islamic Republic.


Swedish media reported that Peyman Kia (3 years old), a former Swedish security director, was arrested on charges of spying for the Iranian government between 2011 and 2015.

The 40-year-old Iranian man, a resident of Uppsala, was arrested by security police on Monday morning. He was born in Tehran and came to Sweden in 1985.


Kia, who previously worked for a Swedish military, was reportedly arrested last Monday and charged by a Stockholm court on Thursday with espionage, abuse of access to classified information and violation of national security.
