American Pen association: new ruling against Nargis Mohammadi is in conflict with freedom of speech
The American Pen Association has issued a statement.
The new sentence sentenced Nargis Mohammadi to one year in prison.
The association said in its statement that the attempt to punish Mohammadi was due to his speech and the publication of the statement from inside the prison.
The statement said the agency condemned the government's move to increase the condemnation of Nargis Mohammadi as a "deliberate strategy" to "silence her brave voice".
Karin Deutsch karlkar, director of the authors at risk division, stated that the new charges against Nargis Mohammadi are in conflict with freedom of speech and are a cynical tactic aimed at preventing her from speaking bravely and fearlessly behind the walls of Evin prison.
Nargis Mohammadi's Instagram account said in recent days that the human rights activist has been sentenced to one year in prison and his total sentences have increased to 10 years and 9 months in prison and 154 lashes.
