DTK calls for support to the petition for Öcalan's freedom.

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) has released a statement calling for support to the petition asking to free Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The petition, promoted by the Freedom for Öcalan Platform, has been already signed by 127 intellectuals, artists, journalists and lawyers around Turkey.
DTK underlined that "the political, social and economic crisis created by the Kurdish question, which has remained unresolved since the foundation of the republic, as well as the growing public demand for democracy, freedom, justice, an honorable and fair life have proved the fact that the basic problems are caused by the monist, repressive and security-oriented system in Turkey."
DTK also pointed out that the call Kurdish leader Öcalan made for a democratic and peaceful solution on 21 March 2013 Newroz Day, and the withdrawal of Kurdish guerrillas from Turkey's borders have initiated a new process and created an opportunity for the resolution of the Kurdish question and all other problems, and for the achievement of democratization in Turkey.
DTK called on the ruling AKP government to take the necessary democratic steps and to launch negotiations with the Kurdish leader in the soonest time to avoid wasting this historic opportunity, emphasizing that the initiation of a negotiation process would not only accelerate the democratic resolution process but also strengthen the hopes for Turkey's attainment of a democratic future, unity of peoples, a free life and an honorable peace.
Democratic Society Congress voiced support to the petition asking to free Kurdish people's leader, the architect of the democratic resolution process aiming to bring peace to Turkey and the Middle East, and all political prisoners.
DTK called on all circles defending peace, democracy, rights and freedoms to support the petition led by intellectuals, artists, journalists and lawyers around Turkey.
