Imams in France called for the beheading of Islam critics

Imams in France called for the beheading of Islam critics.

French media draw attention to how a Tunisian imam in France just days before on Thursday's beheadings in a church in Nice called for the beheading of anyone who insults the Prophet Muhammad. At the same time, the terrorist is confirmed to be a newly arrived boat migrant and compatriot to the Imam.

Two weeks ago, 47-year-old teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded outside Paris by 18-year-old migrant Abdulak Anzorov from Chechnya. He is suspected of having acted after a radical mosque incited the act. Similar information is now emerging about Thursday's terrorist attack in Nice.

A Salafist imam in France is said to have urged Muslims to retaliate by insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

This is Béchir Ben Hassen from Tunisia, a radical imam who has been banned from preaching in his home country and now lives in France - where he is allowed to be active despite expressing support for the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015.

Muslims must take revenge

According to the French newspaper Valeurs Actuelles, just ten days before the terrorist attack on the church of Notre Dame in Nice, Ben Hassen has published a video on Facebook in which he calls on Muslims to act. He is said to argue that Islam allows beheading as a method of insulting the Prophet and then asks rhetorical questions about what Muslims should do.

On Thursday evening, French police confirmed the identity of the beheader in Nice and that he, like Imam Ben Hassen, is from Tunisia. It is 21-year-old Brahim Aouissaoui, a newly arrived boat migrant via the Mediterranean and Italian Lampedusa who is also suspected of having received help from the Red Cross to enter Europe.

The Imam has previously called for beheadings

Imam Ben Hassen has previously been highlighted by the Middle East Media Research Institute for statements in which he expresses that critics of Islam must be punished with execution.

- He who insults the Prophet Muhammad will die. He will be punished with execution, says Ben Hassen in a video.
