Two Civil Activists Jailed in Sanandaj.
During the past two days, two Kurdish civil activists, Shadman Bani Bashr and Afshar Fathi, were sent to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve their sentences.
Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has obtained information that Shadman Bani Bashr, a civil activist and a member of the “Chelchemeh” mountaineering group, submitted himself to Sanandaj Prison to serve a six-month prison sentence yesterday, October 12.
He was arrested by security forces at his workplace on February 2019 and was released on bail of 150 million Tomans after about 45 days. This civil activist was sentenced to one year in prison by the Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj in May this year on charges of “propaganda against the state”. The sentence reduced to six months after he appealed to Branch 4 of the Court of Appeal. On Saturday, October 10, Afshar Fathi, a civil activist from the village of Tangisar in Sanandaj, was also sent to prison to serve a six-year prison sentence.
This civil activist was arrested by the security forces on March 11, 2019. After two weeks of interrogation at the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Sanandaj, he was released on 500 million Tomans bail. In September of last year, he was sentenced to five years in prison by the Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, headed by Judge Saeedi, on charges of “acting against national security” through membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran and “propaganda against the state.” He was sentenced to one year in prison.
