U.S. fears Iran military influence growing in Iraq

Iraqi government troops backed by allied Shiite and Sunni fighters began a military operation to recapture Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit from Islamic State extremists.

They should have thought of that before they made the policy of not arming the Kurds. The Kurdish forces would have advances far more had they had the armor and support equipment. As it stands the useless Iraqi army has no choice but to fight with Shiite militia that come with their Iranian instructors and regiments. One again the US made a bad choice. Why do they always end up laying in shit!
