UN human rights experts have condemned the execution of Haidar Ghorbani

In human statements, UN human rights experts have condemned the execution of Haidar Ghorbani, a Kurdish prisoner by the Islamic Republic of Iran, "in the strongest possible terms."

The UN Human Rights Experts said in a statement that the execution of Haidar Ghorbani was a "gross violation of Iran's obligations under international human rights law."

UN human rights experts have called the trial of the victim "flawed" and said that the death sentence was carried out in secret, at a time when the appeal process was still ongoing.

"We deeply regret that the Iranian authorities, despite our repeated requests, decided to carry out Mr. Ghorbani's death sentence," the UN human rights expert said in a statement.

"This is another sign of their disregard for their obligations under international human rights law and international human rights mechanisms," they added. They have called on the authorities of the Islamic Republic to end the issuance and execution of death sentences.
