She was abducted, bound with 18 meters of tape, and drowned in a canal. Her father Khaled, who later fled to Syria, confessed to the murder, though prosecutors also suspect her brothers, Mohamed and Muhanad, were involved.

Khaled’s DNA was found on the tape and under Ryan’s nails, while Mohamed’s fingerprint appeared on her phone case. Family messages and statements suggested they saw Ryan’s Western lifestyle, such as dating a Dutch boy and not wearing a headscarf, as dishonorable.

Ryan had previously reported abuse and expressed fear of being forced into marriage. Despite prior police protection, it had been withdrawn before her death. The case is set for trial in late 2025.

Ryan’s story is one of many. Every year, girls like Ryan are brutally murdered in places like Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and tribal regions of the Middle East and Africa. The world is often painfully silent about these atrocities.

The world desperately needs the Lord. Only He can confront such evil. How long will we witness stories like Ryan’s and look the other way?
