Petitioning Tunisian Government : Amina must be safe

19 year old Tunisian Amina who posted a topless photo of herself bearing the slogan “my body belongs to me, and is not the source of anyone's honour” has been threatened with death.

 Islamist cleric Adel Almi, president of Al-Jamia Al-Li-Wassatia Tawia Wal-Islah has called for Amina's flogging and stoning to death saying Amina's actions will bring misfortune by causing "epidemics and disasters" and "could be contagious and give ideas to other women..."

 We the undersigned unequivocally defend Amina, and demand that her life and liberty are protected and that those who have threatened her will be immediately prosecuted.

Amina es una joven tunecina de 19 años difundió en las redes sociales una fotografía suya en topless con una frase en árabe que decía "Mi cuerpo es mío y de nadie más", a favor de la lucha por los derechos de la mujer.
Ella es integrante del grupo Femen, un movimiento feminista surgido en Ucrania en 2008 que realiza sus protestas con el torso desnudo para llamar la atención.
El clérigo religioso Adel Almi, presidente de Conciencia Moderada y Reforma, una asociación islámica radical, consideró que Amina debería ser azotada 100 veces en un lugar público dada la magnitud de su pecado, "la chica merece la lapidación hasta la muerte", subrayó.

Sería sorprendente que tomáramos estas declaraciones como una fatua, esto es, un pronunciamiento legal, puesto que Almi no es un juez, ni en la jurisprudencia tradicional islámica se contempla la lapidación o los latigazos por posar desnuda. Así pues, ni existe fatua alguna, sino  declaraciones misóginas y criminales muy graves, ni tienen peso legal ninguno, ya que en Túnez no existe la pena de muerte. La joven podría incurrir en una pena de seis meses a dos años de cárcel y una multa de 100 a 1000 dinares por “atentado al pudor”, tal y como contempla el artículo 226 de la ley penal tunecina.

Aunque la Fatwa emitida por el clérigo Adel Almi, estipula que Amina reciba 100 latigazos en un lugar público y que luego sea asesinada a pedradas para que pague por su indecente pecado, lo cierto es que esa ordenanza no tiene valor a nivel legal.

Sin embargo, da luz verde a cualquier creyente radical a que ejecute el crimen con tal de ofrecer una enseñanza a otras mujeres que se vean tentadas a caer en la misma conducta considerada pecaminosa por el Islam.

Nosotros defendemos a Amina, y demandamos que su vida y su libertad sean protegidas, y que, quienes la amenazaron, sean perseguidos.
