Chanukah is the eight-day Jewish holiday of praise that was declared by the Sages of Israel during the Second Temple period, commemorating the Maccabean victory over the Assyrians.
The holiday starts today, on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev. (כ”ה בכסלו).
