A commander of the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces warned about the mobilization of forces by the Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi in northwest of Mosul near the Faysh Khabur area.

Bahjat Selki, the Commander of Peshmerga forces on Sihela Front near the Iraq-Syria border, told BasNews that the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias have been mobilizing forces in the area for the past two days.

He warned against any uncoordinated advance by the militias, stressing that Peshmerga will not stand idly and will respond to any advances towards their positions.

“Peshmerga will defend Faysh Khabur and Ibrahim Khalil [border crossing with Turkey],” said the commander.

He noted that the militias are heavily equipped with the US-supplied arms, using them in resolving the internal political disputes, adding that this is a violation of the agreement between Iraq and International Coalition which prohibits Iraq from using the military to resolve the political issues.
