ERBIL — Since the invasion of Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu and other disputed Kurdish territories by the Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi, a total of 183,000 civilians have been displaced from their homes, the Office of the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq said in a statement.
“As of 2 November, over 183,000 people are displaced in the disputed areas, including 79,000 from Kirkuk city,” reads the statement.
It also indicates that the majority of the new IDPs are Kurds while a small number of other ethnicities are among them.
The entire civilian IDPs have fled to Kurdistan Region, seeking refuge under the protection of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
