Political prisoner hanged in Iran
The Iranian regime executed Baluchi political prisoner Abdol-Hamid Mir-Baluch Zehi in Zahedan's prison in southeastern Iran on Saturday, December 26.
Abdol-Hamid Mir-Baluch Zehi was accused of killing two members of the regime's paramilitary force, the Revolutionary Guards in 2015. This was reported by the official news site of the regime's so-called judiciary, Mizan.
The regime's judiciary said Mir Baluchzehi was a principled member of the Sunni Muslim group Jaish al-Adl, or the Justice Army, and was accused of "armed action against the country and membership in anti-regime groups."
"Apart from the fact that the death penalty is a cruel and inhuman punishment, all evidence suggests that Abdol-Mamid Mir-Balouch Zehi was denied the right to a fair trial and the right to reconsider under Iranian law," Mojtaba Ghotbi said in a comment to the
"The accused who are accused of 'security risks' are systematically subjected to physical and mental torture to force false confessions, which are then used as evidence by revolutionary courts to impose the death penalty behind closed doors," he added.
The executions are being used as a threat by the Islamic Republic to prevent growing popular protests in the country.
Baluchi political prisoner Abdolhamid Mir-Baluchzehi was hanged Saturday morning, December 26, 2020, in the Prison of Zahedan.
His lawyer, Mostafa Neili, announced the news of his execution in his twitter account.
An informed source said: “Authorities of the Central Prison of Zahedan contacted Hamid’s family on Thursday, December 24, for a last visit with him. After having their last visitation, Hamid’s family said his execution verdict was going to be implemented on Saturday, December 26, and this morning, his execution was carried out.
Simultaneously, Mostafa Neili tweeted: “Appeal for revision of the case of Abdolhamid Mir-Baluchzehi has been registered by the website of Judicial Services and we are waiting for the case to be referred to a branch (for revision). But his family today informed me that he has been relocated from the general ward of the Prison of Zahedan and they feared that he was going to be execution. I urge the Judicial authorities to stop the implementation of this verdict, if the news is true.”
The news outlet of the Judiciary Branch published the news of the execution of this political prisoner, claiming that he had been involved in shooting at Revolutionary Guards forces in 2015 in the Mountain of Birak.
Abdolhamid Mir-Baluchzehi was arrested on November 29, 2015. On May 30, 2017, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. But the Supreme Court annulled this verdict and he was sentenced to death after re-examination of his case. He was accused of “acting against national security and waging war on God” for allegedly murdering two IRGC guards.
These prisoners have repeatedly denied their charges. They said they were severely tortured after being arrested. For example, they were forced naked, flogged, humiliated and insulted.
On December 19, 2020, Behnam Rigi and Shoaib Rigi were also executed in the Central Prison of Zahedan. They had clashed with agents of the anti-narcotics force where several of the forces were killed.
The name of Hamed Rigi is also mentioned in this case, but his execution has been delayed for the time being.
