Hashd Al-Shaabi Attacked by Unknown Gunmen in Pirde, SE Erbil
ERBIL — A number of armed men attacked the Hashd al-Shaabi forces last night in Pirde town, 50 km to southeast of Erbil, where they have been deployed since Baghdad’s October attack on disputed territories.
Kamal Kirkuki, Commander of Peshmerga Forces on Pirde front, told BasNews “At 9:30 pm on Monday, a number of unidentified armed men attacked the Hashd al-Shaabi militias stationed in Pirde.”
The gunmen have inflicted damage to the heavy arms of the Hashd al-Shaabi and two vehicles belonging to the militias caught fire due to the attack, Kirkuki said.
Reports on human casualties are not available yet, he added.
Hashd al-Shaabi militias along with the Iraqi army launched a major offensive against the Peshmerga forces in Kurdistan Region’s disputed territories on October 16. The military operation led to a humanitarian crisis as the Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias forced thousands of people to flee their areas and destroyed hundreds of properties belonging to Kurds, particularly in Tuz Khurmatu.
