Peshmerga Minister Slams Coalition for Indifference over Baghdad Violations

Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs on Friday called on the US-led Global Coalition to break its silence and react to Baghdad’s punitive actions taken against Erbil.
“The coalition, who described the Peshmerga as the destroyer of the myth of the Islamic State (IS), is responsible for military aid not being delivered to the Peshmerga,” Halgurd Hikmat, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Peshmerga, told Kurdistan 24. “They are also responsible for not inviting Peshmerga representatives to international meetings and conferences against IS.”
“Peshmerga forces sacrificed themselves for humanity and democracy in Iraq and the region. It is very unfortunate that economic and political interests of some countries have led them to stand against the future of a nation.”
The Peshmerga official said that the people of Kurdistan will not give up upon the cause they have been struggling for as they see it “right” and “legal”.
The statement comes after an official from the Canadian military revealed that his country’s military supplies prepared for the Peshmerga forces are remaining in limbo because the Iraqi central government refuses to sign the end-use agreement which is a requisite for delivering military supplies.
Buzzfeed News said that the shipment worths $9.5 million (Canadian dollars).
Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan told the news website last month that the shipment was being held. “Anything that we do has to go through a paper approval process with the Iraqi government and that’s where it stands.”
