The Fatimid terrorist army has been the target of new US sanctions in Syria

The United States has imposed sanctions on 39 Syrian individuals and entities, including Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma. The US Secretary of State said in a statement released on Wednesday (June 28th) that the Lashkar-e-Fatemiun militia group would also be sanctioned.

The United States also announced in February 2016 that it had imposed sanctions on two militant groups affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Syria. The two groups include the Fatimid army, which is made up of Afghan militants, and the Zainabion Brigade, which is made up of Pakistani forces.

What group is the Fatimid group?

The Washington Post has previously reported that young Afghans are joining the Fatimid Army (formerly known as the Fatimid Brigade) to earn a few hundred dollars a month.

The Washington Post reported that about 840 members of the Fatimid army were killed during the Syrian civil war.

In fact, the Fatimids were one of the main units under the command of the Quds Force in the battle to support the Syrian government, and during this presence, the unit was transformed from a brigade to an army.

The presence of Afghan forces dates back to the Iran-Iraq War. Ismail Qaani, the new commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, commanded the 21st Imam Reza Brigade during the Iran-Iraq War, which became a division, and commanded the Panj Nasr Division. It was provided at the same time.

He used Afghan forces in the Panj Nasr and 21 Imam Reza units. In recent years, the use of Afghan forces in Syria by the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has become controversial.

Earlier, Human Rights Watch reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran was sending 14-year-old Afghan refugees to Iran to fight alongside government forces. This is a war crime in terms of international law.

The Islamic Republic's use of Afghan forces in the Syrian war has also provoked opposition in Afghanistan.
