Call for immediate action by Amnesty International: Zeinab Jalalian is being tortured by the Ministry of Intelligence
Amnesty International issued a statement of immediate action on Friday, February 15, stating that Zeinab Jalalian was being tortured by the Ministry of Intelligence.
A part of the Amnesty International statement reads:
Iranian Ministry of Intelligence agents detained Zeinab Jalalian, a Kurdish detainee, and tortured her in order to force her to "confess" in front of the camera. This deliberate denial of Zeinab Jalalian's access to medical services has caused her great suffering, especially since she suffers from serious health conditions, including respiratory problems caused by Covid-19.
Since May 1, 2016, when prisons across Iran witnessed the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, Ministry of Intelligence agents have transferred Iranian Kurdish prisoner Zeinab Jalalian to four prisons across the country, violating the principle of absolute prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment. Kept in solitary confinement for a long time and deliberately cut off his access to adequate and appropriate medical care.
The Ministry of Intelligence has made access to appropriate medical care, the transfer of a prisoner close to his family in West Azerbaijan Province and the cessation of retaliatory measures against him conditional on Zeinab Jalalian "confessing" to herself in front of a video camera, announcing her former political activities. Repent and cooperate with the Ministry of Intelligence.
For the past six years, Zeinab Jalalian has been deliberately barred from being transferred to out-of-prison clinics for inaccessible medical care in prison.
