Intensification of widespread repression of Kurdish compatriots: ‌‌ Arrest of 110 Kurdish citizen in January 2021

During the past month, at least two Kurdish citizens have been arrested by the security forces on charges of political, civic and ideological activities, an average of about four per day, an unprecedented figure in recent years.

According to statistics recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of the Human Rights Organization, during January 2021, at least three Kurdish citizens were arrested by the Iranian government's security agencies on charges of political, civil and ideological activity.

According to the report, 9 citizens were arrested on charges of political activity and cooperation with Kurdish parties, 9 citizens on charges of civil activity and 4 citizens on charges of ideological and religious activities.

Most of the detained citizens were registered with 74 cases in West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province. In Kurdistan province, 4 cases and in Kermanshah province, 14 Kurdish citizens have been arrested.

At least nine women, four students, two teachers and three media activists were among those arrested in January.
