كشف رئيس هيئة الأركان المشتركة الأمريكية مارتن ديمبسي عن أن استخدام القدرات الجوية لبلاده لاستهداف زعماء التمرد الذي يقوده السنة هو أحد الخيارات التي يجري الإعداد لها.

وأضاف "نشغل الآن عددا كبيرا من الطائرات بطيار ومن دون طيار، ونستخدم قدرات الاستخبارات والاستطلاع، ونبني صورة تمكننا من توفير الدعم لقوات الأمن العراقية في مواجهتها مع تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية في حالة اتخاذ قرار بذلك".
