Meanwhile, the Islamic State (IS) has recaptured larger areas in eastern Syria. IS gained control of one of the largest oil fields in the country after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters withdrew. 
For days, the IS and the Kurdish-led SDF have been fighting fierce battles in eastern Syria. According to the Syrian Human Rights Observatory, at least 68 SDF fighters have died since Friday in the most severe Islamist attack in months. The IS had withdrawn after the losses to some desert areas on the border between Syria and Iraq
