Today, it is a year since the Iraqi army together with the Iranian regime / militias tried to attack Erbil. They had been given "blood on the tooth" after placing Kirkuk. This as a consensus of a referendum on KRG would exclude independence or not.
However, Iraqi militia with Iranian militias did not come so far, almost a kilometer actually.
You can ask yourself why it is so important for countries like Iran and Turkey - that minorities and indigenous peoples should not be entitled to an independent country.
I hope Assyria one day can proclaim independence in Nineveh, and I also hope that Kurds will gain their independence.
Prde Battle Anniversary: Peshmerga Vows to Fight for Kurdistan to the Bitter End
Kurdistan’s Peshmerga Command has vowed to continue the fight for Kurdistan to the bitter end while marking the one year anniversary of the Prde Battle on 20 October.
A year earlier, the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias, equipped with heavy arms supplied by the US to the Iraqi army, marched towards Erbil after taking over Kirkuk on 16 October 2017. In Prde, the Peshmerga forces defeated the massive military attack and pushed the Shi'ite militias back.
Peshmerga Command said in a statement on Saturday that the development of Hashd al-Shaabi came after a Kurdish faction “betrayed” the Peshmerga and “sold Kirkuk so cheap”.
“This led the others into the illusion of seeing Kurdistan a weak entity with weak forces. However, the Peshmerga stood against their conspiracy in a courageous battle in Prde, and defeated the plan,” reads the statement.
The Peshmerga Command also paid tribute to the fallen Peshmerga and their families, saying their sacrifices would be valued for generations to come.
