Sanandaj Prosecutor’s Office Refused to Release An Environmental Activist.

The Sanandaj Prosecutor’s Office refused to temporarily release an environmental activist called Sahar Kazemi (held at Sanandaj Central Prison) who was arrested by the security forces on Aug 9, 2018.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KORN) has been informed that the environmental activist has been transferred to Intelligence Ministry’s Detention Centre in the city of Sanandaj daily for 72 days, interrogated and returned back to Sanandaj Central Prison after each round of interrogations.
During the first weeks of her detention, she has been in contact with her family several times and informed them about her location and status. She has stated that she was being interrogated at the Intelligence Ministry’s Detention Centre in the city of Sanandaj. However, she has not contacted her family in the past few weeks and no information is available on her current status to this day. Following frequent enquiries made to the court and the Sanandaj Intelligence Office, her family were informed that she was still under temporary detention by the order of Sanandaj Prosecutor. The family’s request for her temporary release on bail has been refused by the authorities.
It should be noted that on Thursday, Aug 9, 2018, Sanandaj security forces raided the house of Sahar Kazemi in Sanandaj and arrested this activist while inspecting the house and seizing some of her personal belongings before transferring her to the Intelligence Ministry’s Detention Centre in the city of Sanandaj.
