Iran: political prisoners receive new prison sentences and denied care.

a new wave of executions and arrests is currently sweeping across the country. In parallel with this, information comes to the FFFI which shows that the regime has also stepped up the repression in prisons by increasing the pressure on political prisoners. This applies in particular to prisoners of conscience and political prisoners who support the pro-democracy opposition group, the People's Mojahedin (PMOI-MEK)

These repressive measures come at the same time as regime officials and state media warn of a declining economy, increased popular discontent and future revolts against the clergy.

Extended and long prison sentences for political prisoners

Recently, the regime's so - called judiciary decided to extend the prison sentence for prisoner of conscience Saeid Sangar by another 11 months. Said had already served his 20-year prison sentence for supporting the pro-democracy opposition group, the People's Mojahedin (PMOI). He should have been released under the previous sentence, but the regime's judiciary prosecuted him again without any explanation.

Iranian officials resentenced #SaeidSangar to 11 months in prison, refusing to free him after 20 years of imprisonment and torture for his political beliefs and support of @Mojahedineng. @ Eu_eeas must consider #Humanrights values above financial interests.https: //t.co / pNO72aL5uB

With his 20 years without a single leave, he is one of the prisoners of conscience in Iran who has spent the longest time in the regime's prisons. He has been in custody since August 2000 when he was arrested. He spent the next three years in solitary confinement in Evin Prison under constant interrogation and torture.

In 2003, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for waging war against God (moharebeh) and for contact with the Iranian opposition group, PMOI. During his time in prison, he has been subjected to torture, not least 13 mock executions.

The regime recently sentenced another political prisoner, Loghman Hakimpour, to ten years in prison. He has been detained at Evin Prison in Tehran for seven months. The trial against him began on January 12. The regime's court sentenced him to five years in prison for "violations of national security" and another five years for "membership in the opposition group, PMOI".

Political prisoners are denied care

Another case is the emergency situation of political prisoner Masoumeh Senobari in Tabriz prison. She has been denied leave despite repeated requests to leave prison to visit doctors and seek hospital care for suspected cancer. Her family has agreed to pay for full treatment but the regime continues to deny her care.

Even political prisoner Reza Qoli Shir Mohammadi, who is in a prison in the same city, is denied care. The regime refuses to give him permission for medical treatment despite the 65-year-old suffering from liver cancer.
