US President-elect Joe Biden's team pledged to "immediately reconsider" the decision to designate the Houthi group a "terrorist organization" and to stop military support for Saudi Arabia in its war against the group in Yemen.
Biden's candidate for the post of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that he would "immediately review the decision of outgoing Secretary of State Mike Pompeo regarding designating the Houthis as a terrorist organization."
"We will propose to immediately reconsider this decision to ensure that humanitarian aid is not impeded," he said during the approval session of his appointment to the position in the Senate. The president-elect made it clear that we will end our support for the Saudi military campaign in Yemen," Blinken said, adding, "We will do that very quickly."

The incoming US Secretary of State stressed that while the Houthis bear "great responsibility" for the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which is "the worst in the world," the Saudi-led coalition "has contributed greatly to this situation."

The Trump administration had designated the Houthis a terrorist organization, and the decision preventing direct dealing with them came into effect on Tuesday.

The decision freezes any assets in the United States related to the Houthis, prevents Americans from doing business with them, and criminalizes providing support or resources to them.
