Kurdish protesters storm Tory campaign HQ in London

Activists enter building in Westminster in attempt to highlight suffering of civilians caught up in fighting in south-east Turkey.

Scores of Kurdish protesters have stormed the Conservative party’s campaign headquarters in Westminster in an attempt to highlight the suffering of civilians caught up in fighting in south-east Turkey.
The Metropolitan police confirmed that protesters had broken into the building in Matthew Parker Street, near the Palace of Westminster. Officers were sent to the scene shortly after 2pm on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Kurdish activists said they wanted the British government to persuade Turkey to stop its attacks on the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ party), which resumed last year after a breakdown in the peace process.
A number of the protest leaders were said to have gone to the House of Lords in an attempt to speak to government ministers.
A Met spokeswoman said: “An appropriate policing plan is in place. Officers are at the scene. A number of protesters have entered the building.”
