Protests in Darbandikhan against the critical financial situation of public service employees

Protests in Darbandikhan against the critical financial situation of public service employees
Darbandikhan:

The citizens of Darbandikhan in Sulaimani province of Iraqi Kurdistan protested for the second day on Monday (Jan. 18) to demonstrate against the critical financial situation of public service employees. The protesters blocked the city’s main road in the demonstration to raise public pressure on the government that has not paid salaries for months. Civil activist Hana Jaf told NRT, “The protesters blocked the main road between Kalar and Darbandikhan with petrol trucks, and they are asking for salaries and services.” The frustrated citizens showed resolve in strategically blocking the main oil transportation route from Kalar. “The people blocked trucks which are transporting oil and petrol with fires set. But the protester didn’t block the road for civilians,” the protester added explaining that the actions were targeted at the politicized oil transports going through the financially crippled region
