Iranian-sponsored terrorist rebels attack Saudi oil facilities
Iran-supported Houthirebell attacked Saudi oil facilities on Tuesday. The attacks were carried out with drones early in the morning local time, according to international and local media.
Saudi Arabia's energy minister Khalid al-Falih described the attacks as "a terrorist act". He confirmed to Reuters that the country has stopped pumping oil in the area while waiting for the damage to be rectified.
Tuesday's attacks come after two Saudi oil ships were sabotaged in the Gulf of Persia over the weekend. The United States said it is likely that the Iranian regime or groups supported by the Tehran regime could be behind the sabotage.
Several experts and media describe the attacks and sabotage as the Tehran regime's reaction to increased pressure from the US, including an oil embargo on Iran.
The tensions between the US and the Iranian regime near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz have increased dramatically over the past week. The United States recently sent several aircraft carriers and battleships to the Persian Gulf. This since Washington had been informed that the Iranian regime is planning to attack American ships, soldiers and interests in the region.
US Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo and President Donald Trump have on several occasions warned the Iranian regime to attack US interests in the region. Both have said that the US will respond to all Tehran attacks even if they are carried out by Iranian-backed groups in the region.
Many experts and media speculate whether the US and Iranian regime are moving towards an armed conflict in the near future.
