Parliament Works to Recognise Atrocities in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu as Genocide.

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament is planning to discuss the recognition of the Iraqi atrocities in Kirkuk and Tuz Khurmatu against the Kurdish population as genocide, said a lawmaker.
“A draft law has been submitted to the parliament on the issue, and its first discussion has already been held during a session,” said MP Abbas Ghazali.
“In the following sessions, the parliament will form a new committee made up of lawmakers to investigate into the facts on the ground in Kirkuk and Tuz Khurmatu,” he added.
The Iraqi army and Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias on 16th October attacked the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu and several other territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad. The offensive resulted in a huge displacement of Kurds who fled their homes in fear of persecution at the hand of the Shi’ite militias.
Since then, dozens of Kurdish civilians are assassinated, several Kurdish officials dismissed from their positions, hundreds of properties belonging to Kurdish civilians were destroyed.
A parliamentary committee had already been formed to study the situation in the affected areas. MP Ghazali said that the committees’ report was discussed at the Kurdistan parliament during its last session this week. No decision was yet made.
