A Kurdish Journalist Transferred to Mahabad Prison for Endorsement of his Sentence.
Arsalan Borna, the journalist from Mahabad who was sentenced to one year in prison by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court in May this year, was transferred to Mahabad Prison for endorsement of his sentence.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that Arsalan Borna was arrested after being summoned to the Enforcement of Office of Mahabad on Sept 25, 201 before being transferred to Mahabad Prison to serve his sentence.
He was previously arrested on Feb 23, 2018, after being summoned to the Intelligence Bureau but he was temporarily released on a bail of 200 million rials after 5 days until the trial was held.
On March 27, his hearing was held at the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad which issued a verdict based on the conclusion that the content of some of his writings on some websites and Kurdish publications such as “Hewal” and “Jilwan” represented propaganda against the state. Accordingly, Arsalan Burna was sentenced to one year in prison for propaganda against the state.
After the journalist contested the verdict, his case was referred to branch 15 of the Orumiyeh Court of Appeal which equally approved the verdict in September of this year.
Arsalan Barna, the journalist and political analyst, was arrested several times in the years of 2007, 2008, and 2009.
