Few situations in my life have been as difficult as the meeting with 60-year-old Ahmad and his twelve-year-old wife Sohaila.



He married her when she was ten years and he did not think he had done anything wrong - he asked her dad for permission and he paid for her.
On the other hand, he thinks she is wrong - because she says she does not love him and she does not want sex with him.

He also thinks it's a pity she asks to go to school. He says it is contrary to the culture. She must not even go outside the door without him.

During the interview, both Ahmad and Sohaila began to cry.
She because she does not want to be married to him - she said she'd rather kill herself than be married to him - but her mother told her that suicide is against Islam.
He because he was so offended by what she said would hit her.

Ahmad grabbed her neck and drew herself with violence and showed her fist how he usually hit her over her body.
He explained that it is the only way he knows to correct her.

Sohaila's mother said she loves her daughter but that this is part of the life of women in Afghanistan and that she herself has become much more raped and beaten than her.
She also said that it would be very bad for the family if the daughter wants to differ.

For Sohaila, who dreams of going to school and training for a doctor, there is no resort. She says she can not fly from Ahmad and that the only end she sees is that the family kills her - or that she kills herself.

Amnesty estimates that 80-90 percent of women in Afghanistan are exposed to forced marriages.
According to a UN report from 2016 gifts half past 19 years of age, of which 40 percent of them are between 10-13 years.

"It gives joy to men when the girls are very young," said Ahmad 60-year-old.
Sohaila is his third wife.
