Saman Karimi, a former political prisoner sentenced to death, was transferred to Baneh prison and his wife, Farzaneh Rashidi, was transferred to Saqqez central prison. The couple have spent the past 35 days in detention.

According to a report received by the Human Rights Organization Hengaw, Farzaneh Rashidi, 26, a student at Payam Noor University in Baneh, and her husband, Saman Karimi, 33, were recently transferred to Saqqez and Baneh prisons, respectively.

On Sunday, june 25, 2025, Saman Karimi and Farzaneh Rashidi were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

It is worth noting that the security forces, using violence, first arrested Saman Karimi, a former political prisoner, on a street in Baneh and then raided their family home and arrested his wife, Farzaneh Rashidi.

Saman Karimi was previously arrested by the IRGC Intelligence Forces on Thursday, November 8, 2018, and transferred to Shahramfar Detention Center in Sanandaj (Sannah). After a year of detention, on November 12, 2019, Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Saeedi, sentenced him to death and 11 years in prison on the charge of “rebellion through membership in the Democratic Party of Kurdistan of Iran.”

The aforementioned sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court in September 2020 due to a flawed investigation and referred to Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court.

Saman Karimi was released from Sanandaj Central Prison after the death sentence was overturned and finally, on July 17, 2021, Branch 4 of the Kurdistan Provincial Court of Appeal (SNA) sentenced him to 4 years in prison for being a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, 4 years in prison for gathering and colluding against national security, and 1 year in prison for propagandizing against the system, for a total of 9 years in prison, which was enforceable under the law on the aggregation of sentences of 4 years.
