Ankara blast: Immediate aftermath of Guven Park explosion

Blast in Turkish capital leaves at least 27 dead

Turkish capital Ankara was shaken by a huge blast Sunday evening.

Turkish capital Ankara was shaken by a huge blast Sunday evening. The blast occurred near the Riot Police point in the central Güvenpark in Kızılay district, leaving at least 6 cars on fire, including a public bus.


According to witnesses, many people have lost their lives as a result of the explosion. These have been rushed to hospitals around.


Ankara Governor's office said in a statement on the incident that the blast was caused by the detonation of a bomb-laden car. 20 people died at the scene, and 7 others in hospitals. At least 75 others were wounded, the governor's office said.


Turkish capital Ankara has been shaken by three violent explosions since October.


The bomb attack on Peace Rally on 10 October killed 102 people and some 500 others wounded.


As many as 28 people died and 61 others were injured as a result of a bomb attack that targeted a military bus on 17 February.
