A Lebanese Hezbollah spy "affiliated with the Iranian regime" has been sentenced to 23 years in prison in the United States

US Department of Defense translator Mary Thompson was sentenced to 23 years in prison on Wednesday. He is accused of leaking classified information to a man with links to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

John Demers, director of national security at the Department of Justice, said Thompson had "betrayed" the American people, the people he worked with and the trust he had placed in him, and endangered his colleagues.

The 62-year-old woman admitted in court that she provided confidential information, including information about US spies in Iraq, to a Lebanese citizen, even though she knew she was passing the information to Shiite militias backed by the Iranian regime.
