The UN Secretary-General called for an end to human rights abuses in Iran.

The UN Secretary-General called for an end to human rights abuses in Iran.

In his latest report to the UN Human Rights Council on human rights abuses in Iran, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reiterated his concern over the high number of executions.

According to the 18-page report, the Islamic Republic executed at least 267 people in 2020, nine of whom were women.

Apart from the numerous reported cases of violations of the rules of procedure and torture of defendants, including the execution of Navid Afkari, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic has reported only 91 executions, and the rest have been verified by human rights organizations.

The report also referred to the execution of Ruhollah Zam and called it a "gross violation of freedom of expression."

The UN Secretary-General also announced the continuation of the Islamic Republic's continued repression, killing and imprisonment of protesters, dissidents and minorities, citing the numerous cases and cases of political and human rights prisoners and the exertion of legal, judicial and security pressure on them. Their families have informed.

The issue of compulsory hijab and violations of women's rights in connection with dress in public are other human rights violations in Iran that the UN Secretary-General has criticized.

Health, declining living standards, violations of the fundamental rights of NGOs, the right to housing, the right to education, as well as education in the local language are other issues raised in Antonio Guterres' new report.

In another part of the UN Secretary-General's report to the UN Human Rights Council, it is stated that in 2020, about 60 cobblers were killed in deprived areas and 10 fuel burners were killed in Sistan and Baluchestan (March 2010).

The report also highlights the deaths of detainees in detention as a result of torture and lack of medical care, and criticizes the lack of effective treatment.

"Human rights violations and crimes committed by the government appear to be part of a policy of repression, silence and despair among political opponents," he said.
