The Turkish regime, through its mercenaries in the region, is trying to create divisions among the Kurds. They continue their efforts by sowing division and influencing some mercenaries. We have a gang in Kurdistan as a treasonous gang. We must recognize them as self-soldiers and donkeys who cooperate with the occupying regimes of Kurdistan, especially the Turkish government.
A group of expatriate activists condemned the failure to invite the PjaK to the Iranian Freedom Congress and said that the division of the political forces in East Kurdistan at this stage will weaken the position of the Kurdish forces in the political equation and changes.
The PJAK statement is more than a documented and responsible stance, it is a clear example of political obfuscation and targeted projection. The fact is that PJAK was not a founding member of the “Freedom for Iran” Congress and did not attend any of its official meetings; rather, like other movements, it was merely invited as a guest. The request for a platform was also made in a situation where the Congress program had been finalized in advance and there was no possibility of redesigning it. Turning such an executive restriction into a “political elimination” is nothing but a deliberate distortion of reality.
On the other hand, by making vague claims about “hidden hands,” the statement is trying to point the finger of accusation at the Komaleh Party and the Democratic Party without providing any evidence. This is while Zagros Andriari, “responsible for PJAK diplomacy in Europe,” has explicitly denied this claim and announced that these two parties had no role in this incident. Even within the framework of the Coalition of Political Parties of Iranian Kurdistan, of which PJAK itself is a member, this issue has been raised and categorically denied by Komaleh and Democrat. This obvious contradiction not only undermines the internal coherence of PJAK’s position, but also severely undermines the political credibility of the entire statement.
Furthermore, PJAK, as a responsible party and a member of the “Coalition of Political Parties of Iranian Kurdistan”, could have directly inquired from its allied parties, #Komaleh and Democrat, before issuing such a statement and obtained the truth from internal organizational channels. Ignoring this obvious path and resorting to media atmosphere-building, more than anything else, indicates a preference for creating tension over transparency and political dialogue.
Statement by the Foreign Relations Committee of the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) on the “Iran Freedom Congress”
Which hidden hand led the Iran Freedom Congress astray?
As has been reported in the media for some time, a congress titled “Iran Freedom Congress” is scheduled to be held in London on March 28 and 29. In the extremely sensitive political atmosphere that has developed around the developments in Iran, we at the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK) have tried to enter into dialogue and interaction with all political movements that claim to be democratic and freedom-loving.
Within this framework, in recent weeks we had a joint meeting with the organizers of the “Iran Freedom Congress” and a constructive dialogue took place. In this dialogue, we shared with them the views, programs, and political project of the PJAK; views and programs that the other side also evaluated positively.
Subsequently, the participants of the “Iran Freedom Congress” extended an official invitation to our party, as well as other Kurdish and Iranian political parties and organizations, to participate in this congress. Considering the positive dialogue that took place and with the idea that this congress seeks to create broad convergence among the political and civil forces of Iran, we responsibly decided to respond positively to this invitation and participate in it.
From the content of the dialogues as well as the official writings of the participants of the congress, we understood that the possibility of forming an open, democratic and mutually respectful space for sharing ideas and programs would be provided. It was expected that this process would proceed in a transparent, pluralistic, democratic and free from any imposition. However, from the very beginning, without our opinion and without the slightest coordination, we witnessed in disbelief the publication of the news of the formation of an institution called the “Coordination Council of the Iran Freedom Congress” on the official website of the congress. From the beginning, we were skeptical about this opaque and undemocratic appointment method and shared this concern with the Congress officials. Their response was that this council is in no way a decision-making or executive authority. However, the council’s performance subsequently showed that these assurances did not correspond to reality.
Although official invitations had been sent to our party by the Congress Executive Committee, we learned that the names of our party representatives had been removed from the list of invitees in an irresponsible manner that was contrary to the principles of transparency, convergence and democracy. This action not only lacked political maturity, but was also clearly in conflict with the principles declared by the Congress.
Unfortunately, contrary to the title of this Congress, the performance of its Coordination Council was reminiscent of the arbitrary, authoritarian and imposed approaches of institutions such as the Guardian Council. What happened was neither a sign of democracy and political-moral honesty, nor did it reflect equal and free participation; rather, it was a manifestation of discriminatory, selective, and exclusionary behavior and the product of a hidden conspiracy behind the scenes.
Based on the follow-up and information obtained, a voting session was held in a guardian-like and authoritarian manner in the Coordination Council, and as a result, PJAK's right to participate in this congress has been denied. At the same time, the people with whom we had a joint meeting are still in our opinion of good faith and have themselves admitted that "hidden hands" were at work in the process of eliminating PJAK.
But the fundamental question is: How is it possible for such hidden hands to interfere in the activities of a congress whose stated goal is to build trust and convergence, and for such exclusionary, opaque, and trust-destroying behaviors to emerge from its participants? Based on information we have received from internal sources of this council, it has been claimed that two other Kurdish parties present at the congress, namely the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran and the Kurdistan Komala Party of Iran, played a role in the process of eliminating PJAK.
Regardless of its truthfulness, this claim is an issue that must be examined within the framework of relations between Kurdish parties and under the supervision of the Kurdish community; but in any case, it does not reduce the responsibility and consequences of the action taken to eliminate PJAK from the “Iran Freedom Congress”.
Our question to the organizers and officials of the congress is clear: Was this exclusionary and imposed approach the result of the influence, order, or pressure of a specific government or political movement? In this regard, we expect a transparent and responsible response.
You have spoken of convergence, responsibility, and pluralism in your propaganda; so what factor or factors—whether encouragement, threats, or sectional interests—led you to deviate from these claims? While in your official texts you have spoken of opposing external interference and behind-the-scenes negotiations, evidence shows that the same opaque mechanisms and profit-seeking collusion that have distorted Iran's political atmosphere for years have been reproduced in the first step of your congress.
Another question is whether this action should be considered the beginning of a process of further eliminations. Iran’s historical experience has shown that initial soft eliminations have in some cases led to violent eliminations in later stages.
You have stated on your website that “this congress is not a place to elect or promote a leader and form a coalition, but rather to explore mediation mechanisms for participatory transitional governance.” However, what has actually happened is the formation of a kind of unwritten coalition to prevent free and democratic participation; a process that has violated the principles of democracy, equality, and pluralism from the very beginning.
We say it bluntly: the eliminationist, arbitrary, and imposed behavior of the Congress Coordination Council lacks any acceptable justification and is significantly different from the title and claim of the “Iran Freedom Congress.”
With such an approach, is this Congress taking steps towards producing another version of the “emergency booklets”? With this approach, do you still see yourself in the position of criticizing the hegemonic forces—including currents such as Pahlavi—or are you actually reproducing the same patterns of domination and elimination?
When you talk about “restoring trust in Iranian society,” how do you justify this destruction of trust? From our perspective, no justification is acceptable; because you have violated the most basic principles of democratic interaction and political relations. With such an approach, how do you intend to speak to public opinion about freedom, equality, justice, citizenship, democracy, and participation?
The performance of the Congress Coordination Council clearly demonstrated that merely claiming the transition from an Islamic Republic is no guarantee for the realization of democratic values. The risk of reproducing authoritarian, patronizing, and imposed behaviors—among those claiming democracy—remains serious. Non-transparent and undemocratic mindsets cannot pave the way for freedom and equality, and such approaches will never pave the way for trust, convergence, and joint cooperation.
The Freedom Congress of Iran, in its first step, from our perspective, has acted outside the framework of convergence and contrary to democratic standards. Accepting this fact is the least that its stakeholders can do on the path to reform.
We, the Free Life Party of Kurdistan-PJAK, expect a transparent, explicit, and responsible response to the questions raised.
