In a report published on Saturday, May 9 (May 19), the American newspaper quoted informed sources, including American officials, as saying that this base was built shortly before the start of Operation "Lions Roar"; An operation that began with the participation of the United States and Israel against Iran.

According to this report, the purpose of creating this base was to bring Israel closer to the battlefield and to provide a rapid response in the event of a possible downing of Israeli pilots over Iranian territory or other areas. According to these sources, Israeli Air Force special forces trained for commando operations in enemy territory were present at this base.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that although no Israeli fighter jets were shot down during this war, when an American F-15 fighter jet crashed near Isfahan, Israel offered to help with the rescue operation; although in the end, American forces themselves rescued the crew of the plane.

According to the newspaper, the location of this secret base was about to be revealed in early March. Iraqi media reported at the time that a local shepherd had spotted unusual activity, including helicopters flying and gunfire, in a remote area and had alerted security forces.

Iraqi forces were sent to investigate the incident. However, sources told The Wall Street Journal that Israel had launched airstrikes to prevent Iraqi forces from approaching.

One Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were wounded in the clashes. Baghdad condemned the attack at the time and filed a complaint with the United Nations, initially blaming the United States.
