#Femicide in #Iran: #Nadereh, a 41-year-old woman, was run over by her husband with a car in one of the busiest areas of Tabriz (Ael Goli) and died.
Fatima Babakhani, founder of the Safe House for Women Victims of Violence and a prominent social and women's rights activist in Iran, posted this image and wrote:
"Nadereh, a 41-year-old woman in Tabriz and mother of a teenage girl, was run over by her husband with a car she bought with her own money in one of the busiest areas of the city (Ael Goli)! Why? Because she wanted a divorce! Because she was exhausted from her husband's mistreatment and betrayal, after only 7 months of marriage!"
She described domestic violence in Iran on her Instagram account as follows:
"Domestic violence has never been and is not a 'private matter'! The concept of 'family conflict' in an attempt to minimize a significant form of gender-based violence insists on forcing women to remain silent within the family. Today, a woman in Tabriz who was trying to get away from her husband's violence was run over by her husband with a car! So that she has no way to escape from her abuser!
Often, women who have experience with child marriage, early pregnancies, low education, lack of financial resources, and lack of family or civil support networks are more likely to be dragged by the abuser towards more severe forms of violence.
Women's economic empowerment also reduces the likelihood of violence against them. Even low income!
For the thousandth time! In the absence of adequate protective laws, a misogynistic culture, and impunity for perpetrators of violence, dozens of women will be exposed to various forms of violence every day in silence and under the shadow of titles such as honor, family disputes, and privacy! Women who, even if they are killed, still have no name or address, not even in the media!
"A woman in Tabriz... A woman in Tehran... A woman in Karaj..."
Perhaps even the omission of their names from their narratives is intentional so that they are not remembered on the long list of #feminicides!
"Women's lives matter!"
