#Femicide in Islamic Governance and Islamic Thoughts; A Report on the Murder and Secret Burial of #Shahla_Karmiani by Her Brother-in-Law and Wife in Mahabad
Shahla Karimiani, a citizen of Mahabad, was murdered by her brother-in-law and wife shortly after returning to her ex-husband and children. The body of this young woman was discovered after 15 days of disappearance.
According to a report received by the Hengav Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, October 10, 1404 (October 2, 2025), the body of Shahla Karimiani, 38, a resident of Mahabad, was discovered in the “Beh Faravan” cemetery in the village of Sharviran, Mahabad. Her body was discovered after 15 days of disappearance and following her confession to the murder of Amir Shenge and Omid Shenge, her brother-in-law and wife. The murderers of Basnariosazi pretended that Shahla lives in Kurdistan region.
A close member of this family told Hangau that a year ago, Shahla divorced her husband due to domestic violence and her second marriage, and her children were with their father. Also, due to the lack of support from Shahla's own family, she managed her life alone after the divorce by working as a laborer in the orchards and agricultural lands of Mahabad.
This person emphasized that after the divorce, Shahla had repeatedly announced to her family and friends that she was receiving death threats from her brother-in-law, and she was receiving threatening and violent calls and audio files from her brother-in-law repeatedly. He emphasized that he was threatened with death many times.
After about a year of divorce, Shahla's husband asked Shahla to marry him again on the pretext of taking care of their children, and eventually they remarried. After the remarriage, Shahla's family did not receive any calls from her, and their follow-ups were responded to by Shahla's husband with the accusation that she had run away to neighboring countries with another man. They were even sent a message from a number in Iraq with the content: I (Shahla) am in Erbil and don't worry about me.
Finally, after Shahla's sister complained about Shahla's brother-in-law and husband, they were arrested and immediately confessed to the murder and burial of her body in the Farwan cemetery.
After the exhumation, Shahla Karimian's body was sent to the Mahabad and Urmia forensic medical examiners for an autopsy and to discover the manner of the young woman's murder.
Shahla's brother-in-law Amir Shenge and her wife Omid Shenge are still in the custody of the judicial authorities.
