Yazd Prison; Continuing Deprivation of Medical Care and Deterioration of #Zeinab_Jalalian’s Physical Condition
She, who had been suffering from uterine fibroids for months, underwent embolization in early October 2025, but was returned to prison in a sling just one day after the surgery, while her treatment had not yet been completed.
Despite continuing bleeding, severe abdominal pain, and anemia, prison officials and security agencies have so far prevented her from being sent for an ultrasound and MRI, a measure that medical experts have described as “dangerous.”
This is despite the fact that 22 human rights organizations and 13 human rights defenders had previously called for her immediate access to medical services and her unconditional release in a joint statement.
Also, 9 UN special rapporteurs had warned in May about Jalalian’s torture, ill-treatment, detention conditions, and physical condition, and emphasized that time was “critical” to save her life.
Zeinab Jalalian, born in 1982 and originally from Mako, has been in prison without leave since March 2007 and has been violently transferred between different prisons many times over the years. It should be noted that the forensic doctor has also stated that she cannot bear the continued imprisonment, but the security agencies have made her release conditional on “expressing remorse.
