An Iraqi court has sentenced #criminal and #misogynistic #Dhurgham Abdul-Salam_Al-Tamimi to death by hanging after convicting him of the murder of university professor Sarah Al-Aboudi, former MP Rehab Al-Aboudi announced ..Horrific crime shakes Iraq: Sara Amar, University of Basra professor, shot dead.
Al-Aboudi described the ruling as “a victory for justice,” in a case that shocked Iraq last year.
She said, “The Iraqi judiciary has issued a death sentence by hanging against the convicted Dhurgham Abdul-Salam Al-Tamimi, after finding him guilty of the murder of university professor Sarah Al-Aboudi.”
Al-Aboudi praised the judiciary’s stance, saying it had resisted influence and pressure. “As we have come to expect from the Iraqi judiciary, it does not bargain with the blood of the innocent, and it stands firmly with justice against anyone who dares to violate the law and humanity,” she said.
The case drew national attention in November after Sarah Al-Aboudi’s body was found in a remote area south of Basra. The suspect, a fellow academic and family acquaintance, had attempted to mislead investigators by sending false messages from the victim’s phone.
He was arrested within 12 hours of the crime, according to Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, who confirmed the suspect is his brother-in-law but said, “The law applies to everyone without exception.”

Winds are moderate northwesterly, ranging between 20 to 30 km/h. They are expected to intensify during the day in the western parts, causing dust and sand disturbances.

A two-day photography workshop in Nineveh’s Hamdaniya district concluded with 22 young men and women gaining both theoretical and practical skills under the guidance of trainers supported by the Nineveh Rising organization in cooperation with the Amkabad media outlet.
Trainer Behnam Khalid Behnam said the program combined fundamentals with hands-on practice. “We held this workshop to teach the basics of photography, and thankfully the participants’ response was excellent. On the first day we covered core concepts such as the exposure triangle, image composition, and types of photography. The second day was fully practical, focusing on using the camera, taking photos, editing them, and even shooting reels. At the end we held a competition, and the winner received an encouragement prize,” he told 964media.
Participant Venesia Muhannad said it was the first time such a course had been offered in the area. “Anyone can start a small project, and today in 2025 social media is full of opportunities. This workshop will help young men and women market themselves and develop their projects in a practical way,” she said.
Another participant, Raymond Zuhair, highlighted the range of attendees. “The participants came from different age groups. Although the course was short, it was very useful. We learned important basics that will be a foundation to build on in the future. Most of us have a hobby or ambition to become professional photographers, and this step gave us greater motivation to continue developing,” he said.
Workshop organizer Yousif Habash said the initiative was designed to create opportunities for youth. “The program included the basics of photography and its types, along with practical training on the second day. We assigned photography tasks to participants to carry out themselves, because photography has now become an essential part of life, whether in media or personal work. We believe passion and motivation are the basis for developing any skill, and photography with its many opportunities can open wide doors for youth to enter the job market,” he said.
Iraq’s Ministry of Education said preparations for the 2025–2026 academic year are complete, confirming Sunday that classes will begin on Sept. 21 as scheduled.
Ministry spokesperson Karim al-Sayyid told the state-run newspaper Al Sabah that measures included providing school supplies, assigning teaching staff according to school needs, and upgrading facilities. “Preparations covered educational buildings, classrooms, playgrounds, restrooms, water tanks, and school yards,” he said.
Al-Sayyid said the work was carried out during the summer break through “intensive efforts by education departments in Baghdad and the governorates,” adding that several new school construction projects are near completion. He said the projects are part of the government’s broader program to develop the education sector.
The ministry also finalized most textbook printing and has delivered copies to schools ahead of distribution to students. “The majority of textbook printing has been completed and delivered to schools in Baghdad and the governorates, in preparation for distribution to students at the start of the official school year, in accordance with school administration instructions,” al-Sayyid said.
He reiterated that schedules remain unchanged. “The ministry previously set Sept. 1 as the date for teaching staff to report to duty, and Sept. 21 as the start of the 2025–2026 school year, while second-round exams for graduating grades were already announced,” he said
